"Otium. The art of living in the roman home of the imperial age" is the
title of the exhibition that RavennAntica, the Municipality of Ravenna
and Superintendency of Archaeology of Emilia-Romagna are organising in
the splendid Complex of San Nicolò from 15 March to 5 October 2008.
Visitors will be able to admire mosaics, frescoes, statues, busts,
objects, furnishings and other valuable finds from the domus and villae
of Ravenna, Emilia and the area of Vesuvius, and also from the most
important national archaeological museums. Mosaics with geometric
motifs from a second century residence of Ravenna found in the
excavation of the Domus dei tappeti di pietra, already admired by
hundreds of thousands of visitors will be on display for the first
time. Of particular value are some paintings from the area of Vesuvius,
such as the fresco with representation of a garden with sphynxes from
the Casa del bracciale d’oro of Pompei, the plate with “tondo con
fanciullo” and the children playing from the National Archaeological
Museum of Naples. Other items worthy of mention are the statue of the
philosopher Hermarchus from Florence and that of the Orpheus the
citharist from Rimini. Complesso di San Nicolò - Via Rondinelli
